A protest against the disconnect between real life and a perfect Instagram feed.

Social media provides a platform where people portray themselfs as perfect while hiding behind the screen.

The symbols on the dress represent being insecure. In my opinion, a duck face is a face you hide behind when there is a picture taking of you. A quick ''fix'' to make yourself seem perfect, thinner, and loveable, some people even think it looks sexy.

I created this print using an oversaturated picture of myself doing a duck face and a lipstick stain, which is how the duck face began as a kiss.

The way I used it here is to show that you don't have to hide behind it. To accept that it is here and acknowledge that it's not real life.

In this world, the mask and reality are intertwined and cannot always be seen as separate.

I got inspiration for the silhouette of the garment from Instagram with the trends that we see right now like the corset top, cold-shoulder and the throw string on the side. While using this, I did not use tight or sexy elements in the rest of the look.

Staying away from that, I use a baggy fit for the skirt part of the dress and the sleeves. The red hostile coloured sleeves are made out of a simple tricot fabric that I treated with several layers of latex. Treating it like this to make sure it is imperfect, as no one is perfect, and that is beautiful.

Beauty can be found in imperfection, and that how this dress protests against the pressure to pretend to be better than you are. You are good and beautiful in your own way, just like this dress.
